Description
This play is an adaptation/update of the "Cristophe Colombe" written in 1927 by Michel De Ghelderode (1898-1962). The action takes place in an undefined era of the Middle Age, as much undefined as our Era, which has many common points with the Middle Age. First of all: today there are still many people who believe that Earth is flat. π± In the age in which Columbus lived, who said that Earth was spherical was sentenced to witchcraft by the Inquisition.
Today, instead, he could be insulted as a believer of NASA’s pictures. The conviction is different, but the ignorance of the prosecutors is the same.
A suggestion for the director: there are 10 characters in the
comedy. Nevertheless, is possible to stage it with only 2 actors, because one will play Columbus, while the other will play 9 characters. That’s why I inserted in the play some monologues for Columbus who permit the other actor a fast costume changing.
In conclusion, I chose to use emoticons π in order to better express the characters’ moods, considering that today, because of social networks, emoticons are almost rooted in our way of writing. Bye! π
